Acrylic Modified Cement
Acrylic Modified Cement and Concrete Floors
What is Modified Acrylic Cement? It is a color integrated, modified acrylic product made of Portland cement, silica sand and a modified acrylic resin for its bonding agent.
Acrylic Modified Cement is a special cement polymer that can be applied to almost any substrate. Acrylic Modified Cement can be made to look like slate, tile, stone, or brick. Providing a beautiful and natural look in your home or business. But at a fraction of the cost.
How long does it last and what maintenance is required?
Durability: Acrylic Modified Cement is very tough. Twice the strength of regular concrete. Featuring a limited warranty against dramatic fading, delamination, and general product failure.
Maintenance: Virtually no maintenance, non-porous surface. Surface can be blown, swept or hosed off. Resealing is recommended every 2 years.
Installation: Simple and easy; typically takes 2-3 days depending on the size of your job.
Acrylic Modified Cement is applied, making a tile, slate, or stone design. Many colors are used to create the look you desire, while also providing a protective coating at the same time.
When compared to pavers, slate, and natural stones, Acrylic Modified Cement is extremely cost-effective and more flexible, giving you more choices and possibilities.
Our acrylic systems can achieve a look, texture and color of any type stone you like. The base coat is applied that fixes imperfections in the original concrete. Our design is then applied, and (2) coats of sealer are applied to the system. Providing a nonporous surface that protects makes it very easy to maintain. Mold, mildew, motor oil, etc. can be sprayed off with a regular garden hose. Common detergents can be used to remove tough or repetitive latencies.
We generally apply our systems on old concrete between 3/32" to 1/8". CTI's systems are thin layered cements which depend on adhesion through the use of modified acrylics.
Modifying cement formulations with acrylic polymers provides many important properties that make tile and stone overlay applications possible and creates and excellent surface where heavy traffic is an issue. Great for both residential and commercial flooring solutions.
Acrylic Modified Cement provides improved strength and durability indoors or out. Improved tensile strength, impact and abrasion resistance, flexural strength, water resistance, and chemical resistance.
Also, the polymer in the mortar helps restrain micro-crack propagation, which improves the overall toughness of the mortar.
How does the acrylic surface compare to other coatings as far as heat retention?
- Up to 40 degrees cooler than concrete
- 30%-40% cooler than epoxy stone
- 50% cooler than vinyl or urethane
- 40%-50% cooler than wood decks
- Up to 40% cooler than carpet
- 50%-60% cooler than terrazzo
- 40%-50% cooler than tile
- 20%-30% cooler than brick
Colors of the product and texture chosen will affect the overall temperature of the surface.
Will repaired cracks reoccur?
We do everything possible to treat and repair cracks and do eliminate 90% of them. It is possible that cracks may reoccur on a concrete surface. If so, it is usually in the form of a hairline crack, which is often not objectionable as it is largely hidden in the texture.
However, if a crack becomes too objectionable, it is easy to repair. Proper placement of tension cuts greatly reduces the chance of the crack returning. Check cracking is a natural phenomenon which occurs in rock, dried-out mud flats, paint, and concrete and in ceramic coatings. Due to the flexural strength of Acrylic cement, the chances of cracks occurring or reoccurring are greatly reduced.
